We left the Plateau from last night behind and followed an old mining road through the Burwash Uplands while the shrubs vanished and made room for a grassland that was mainly flooded. After a couple of kilometers the street ended and we had to cross the first strong stream… With the result of completely soaked feet and shoes. The environment changed again to a swamp with small hummocks to balance on. It was ankle twisting and sucked away your energy… However we saw a herd of caribou that didn’t care a lot about us 🙂
Finally we climbed a hillslope and could see over a complete valley to the entrance of Hoge Pass, our ordeal for the next day. Tired we still crossed the valley, build up our tents in front of the pass and waited the things that would come.
